ok, i got the damned computer working and it seems to be fairly stable.
for the moment.
i changed things, so well............/shrug.

ok, the operating system it's self is stable ( of course ), but dropline gnome is about to piss me right the fuck off.

the thought just occurred to me that i really hope my kids don't read this.
speaking of which, i have some pictures on my phone that i'll have to post of the munchkins.

so yeah. i'm not in the mood to bitch tonight. other than my faithful keyboard of the last 5 years died. /cry
as much as i dislike microsoft, i gotta give them props on their hardware.
or at least the hardware of 5 years ago.

i'll miss you my ergonomically formed friend. even as i type this, i miss the familliar clickety clack of your grime encrusted keys.

so......here i am, typing away. type type type type...

i'm sick. and i'm not happy about it either damn it. and i have, once again, spread sickness to the one that i love. /doublefrown

i recently came to be in possession of a new computer. well, it's not really new, but it's new to me.

as it turns out, i'm babysitting said computer. one of the conditions of my babysitting said computer was that i be allowed to put any operating system i wanted on it. this was an important caveat for me as the computer came to me with WindowsME installed.

now, for those of you that don't know, the ME in said product name does, in my oh so humble opinion, stand for Mostly Evil.

I say mostly because there are /possibly/ some good qualities to the product, i just never managed to find any.

and as it blew away a hard drive of mine with several mb of perl code on it, i don't hold a lot of faith that there is anything good about said redmond puke.

having said that, i loaded ubuntu linux on the poor homeless computer. ubuntu is a good distribution for people who don't really know what they're doing and just want to point and click. it's come along way since it's initial release.

at least i think it has.

i downloaded the latest "pre-release" cd image, burnt it, and started loading it only to find that the image was bad.

i was rather upset, but since it was 0100 and i had to get up at 0530, i decided to let it lay.

fast forward to now...i reloaded ubuntu ( the only cd i had handy that worked ) and am downloading slackware.

i love slackware. i started using slackware back in oh...95 or so? a horrible distro of linux to learn on, but once you learn to do something, you know /how/ to do it, and how to do it correctly.

you also know how to do it remotely across a text only connection.

in other worlds, i'm still making the adjustment to the blog relocation.
i went to do this very update, and found myself ( out of habit i'm sure ) at my old blog wondering why the hell it was blue instead of black, and where the picture of polka ( the king ) was.

yeah, life is fairly dull right now.
but that's a good thing.

end of the month. Serenity: the movie opens. i'm very excited. it looks to be a damned good flick. potentially one of the better ones this year. mind you i didn't see the drivel that was the latest star wars money maker, or the new batman flick ( i was busy and somehow it disappeared before i could go...? ) so i don't have those to judge it on.
but, judging the t.v. show ( firefly ) against the previous offerings of the s.w. && batman camps, well......yeah, it'll be a good flick. joss rules.

and now, to continue a longstanding tradition, i shall, before your very eyes......pull a treehouse out of my hat.

well, that's what they say. so, i've changed from livejournal to here. while lj may be opensource, which is something that has kept me there for years, blogger has more features that i want, which is what's making me change.

i'm sure that at some point just when you've completely forgotten about it, i'll update the lj blog with something random and amusing.

but for now, this shall become the main place to bitch. w00t.
